Spiti valley is a picturesque cold desert mountain area situated in North Eastern part of Himachal Pradesh state of India. Spiti means ‘Middle land’ and it’s the middle land between Tibet and India.
Spiti and Lahaul has the authentic history and there you get to see some of the oldest Buddhist Monasteries. Also the valley has insanely beautiful landscapes and no doubt it is India’s best place to do stargazing & astrophotography. It is seriously heaven for Astro photographers. There are two ways to enter the beautiful valley one Via Shimla-Kinnaur Highway which is accessible all over the year, and the other way is from Manali via Rohtang Pass which is only opens during summer when Rohtang Pass gets accessible for tourists . Rohtang pass connects the Kullu valley and Lahual -Spiti Valley.
Spiti valley Via Manali-Rohtang has treacherous curves and bad road condition compare to Shimla- Kinnaur but it is ideal for travellers looking for adventure road trips. Best Time to visit Spiti Valley is from June to September when road from both the sides are open and snow gets melted. You will see all the beautiful landscapes in Spiti valley from snow covered white mountains to brown cold desert.

Today we will head to most iconic destination of the trip, key Monastery . Built on top of a hill the main shrine is surrounded by residential quarters, administrative buildings are built in the shape of a pyramid. This ancient marvel is a photographer ‘ s delight. You ‘ll further visit the villages high villages of Kibber, Chicham before returning for overnight stay at Kaza.
The drive retraces your path back towards Manali over Kunzum Pass before heading upstream of Chandra river till you reach the Hidden Jewel of the Himalayan mountains, the blue Jewel, Chandratal literally translated as Moon Lake. From the road head you will have to trek for 15 min to reach the lake and if you feel energetic enough you can do the Parikrama or Circumambulation of the lake to witness its true glory.
